Intense clashes erupted between government forces and protesters in Kangan area of cetral Kashmir’s Ganderbal district after rumours about Kangan youth started doing rounds on social networking websites. According to officials some unknown persons spread rumours about the death of Gowhar Ahmad who was seriously injured during clashes in Kangan on Monday evening.
Soon after the rumor went viral, locals including youth defied restrictions and came out on roads in Kangan and staged protests. A heavy contingent of police and paramilitary forces already deployed there intercepted the protesters, triggering massive clashes between forces and protesters. Protesting youth restore massive stone pelting on forces who responded by aerial firing and tear gas shells.
Four policemen including an officer sustained injuries in clashes, sources said. Police have requested people not to pay heed to the rumours regarding the injured youth of Kangan. Police issued a statement saying that Gowhar was alive and under treatment.
